Highlights
from the Tacoma Highland Games June 25th, 2011
The 41st annual Tacoma Highland Games
were held at Frontier Park in Graham WA ( just east of
McChord AFB).
We went to see the youth compete in the
traditional Scottish Highland dances first. When they took a break
we sped to the bag pipe competition area, but they were also
on break. After a quick loop around the vendor tents ,
we went to the heavy athletics' arena next. At 12 noon,
we were back at the main stage to enjoy the opening
ceremonies. The parade of clans processional was
accompanied by warm sunshine. After a bite of
haggis to eat, we toured more of the grounds, including a harp
circle. Of course, I made my way back to the caber toss,
just as you knew I would ! I regret we had to leave & couldn't
stay for the ceilidh
celebration that evening & we missed out on the music at the
beer garden.
Most of you know I love pipes & dancing. But there's just something about a man in a kilt that draws me in
& holds my attention - more than I realized till now !
So I make no excuses for all the burly men in kilt photos.
But I do regret not seeing any of the individuals compete in
the pipe & drum competitions. If you enjoy this
slideshow, there's even more photos up on the server you can
checkout. Hope to see you at the Tacoma Highland Games in
2012.
