Our thanks to Brian and
John Joe for a wonderful concert earlier this month in
Des Moines, WA.
They live on
opposite US coasts but their talents blended
effortlessly when they came together for a weekend
concert. If you've never been to an Irish
house concert, they are a small, informal gathering
where you can meet & mingle with the artists.
Brian's interpretations of Irish gaelic songs were
spot on this Sunday. Back in 2002, this multi-talented
singer, musician and sean-nós dancer, won the
Senior All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann
traditional singing competition. For a Yank born
in the midwest US - that speaks volumes about his
fluency in Irish gaelic. Besides
sean-nós singing & dancing, Brian
also shared tunes on his accordion &
concertina during this concert. www.buamusic.com/brian_hart.html
Brian
currently resides in Portland where he teaches singing
& language. You can also take his lessons at the
St Louis Tionól !
Originally
from Los Angeles, Joey had the pleasure to first learn
from master piper and Dubliner, Patrick
D’Arcy. He has since been instructed by other
master musicians in the tradition of Irish piping, and
studies his trade while living in Ireland and the USA.
In August of 2009, Joey became a All Ireland Champion
placing 2nd at the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann (The
World Championships of Irish Music in Ireland. ) for
his performance on the uilleann pipes. After
performing in Disney Japan for a year and touring
Europe, Joey now resides in the Boston area, using it
as a base for his constant touring while working on
his debut solo cd.
Our thanks to John Joe for a wonderful concert &
lively set dancing afterwards to his uilleann pipes. http://joeyabarta.com
